Nirmala College for Women, an autonomous college affiliated to the Bharathiar University  is one of the premier institutions nurturing and harvesting quality education for the cause of women empowerment. With its humble beginning in 1948 it has strengthened its roots in its mission statement and broadened its vision by rendering yeomen service to the underprivileged sections of the society. In recognition of the high academic performance and service, the College was accredited with 'A' Grade by NAAC during the academic year 2003 - 2004 and was conferred autonomous status in the year 2007.The enhancement and sustenance of quality led to the reaccreditation (II & III cycle) with 'A' Grade in the academic years 2010 – 2011 and 2015-2016 respectively with a high CGPA of 3.62 on a 4 point scale. At present it has elevated itself into a full fledged Post graduate and Research institution.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENTS:

The Department of Mathematics steered its journey with its inception in the year 1948 as a under graduate Department and became a Post Graduate Department in 1975.In due course it has elevated itself as a Research department offering M.Phil and Ph.D programmes from 2005 onwards. It has emerged as a frontline research department of the college, with assiduous faculty who have several paper publications and presentations to their credit both internationally and nationally. Organising Seminars, Conferences and workshops are a regular feature of the department. In brief the department is in tune with its vision to contribute to human excellence along with academic zeal.    

The Department of Computer Science was established during the year 1997 and subsequently the Department of Computer Applications in the year 2000. In the year 2008, the Department of Information Technology was established. The Department of Computer Science marched forth to become a Post Graduate Department in the year 2014. The Department is keen at developing knowledge, skills, attitude and to inculcate values through interactive methods of learning aided with ICT facilities. Keeping in pace with the recent developments, the Department has made pioneering efforts in signing MOU’s with many software companies. To meet the needs of IT industry, value added courses like .Net, Android and PHP are conducted for the betterment of the students.
